At the end of Feb 2/ 2013, dragon fruit’s price is slightly went down by 0.82- 0.86 USD per KG and this price can guarantee well for the farmers raising the fruit.

But the price suddently increased from 0.15 to 0.25 per KG due to the limited supplying sources and high demands of the fruit coming from Korea, China, Taiwan, Hongkong, Malaysia till the end 2013… So this is a good sign for the farmers in Tien Giang or Binh Thuan province.

At the end of Feb 2013, good dragon fruit’s price fell a little before The Lunar new year days in VietNam  by 0.86 USD per KG. But it is now strongly increased within this week. The first grade’s price ( eye-catching skin, weight more than 300 gram for each one ) is sold out at 1.05 USD per KG in the farm side. And the second one is 0.86 USD per KG too, quoted by Nguyen Van Au, Cho Gao hamlet, Tien Giang province.

“At this time, my famile’s farm is harvesting 5.000m2 of the last season and sell them at 1.02 USD per KG to buyers. After finishing the haverst, we can get a 5000 USD turnover after paying all production costs.”… said merrily by Mr Au.

Not only Mr Au, other farmers rasing the fruit in this area are very interested because of the bumper crop of dragon fruit. “ The price is still keeping high and steady these years so that the farmers can take a good care for their families. And this year’s  price is higher than the other ones makes a really good bottem line for me.”…said by Nguyen Thi Anh, another farmer in Cho Gao.

Many farmers in Cho Gao indicated that the average capacity of the fruit much depended on technology and weather conditions is from 20 to 30 tons per hectare. So with the persent price could bring profits around 6000 USD per hectare for each farmers after deducting all the costs.

According to the General Statistic Office, Tien Giang now has more than 2.500 hectares of dragon fruit raised mainly in Cho Gao. They include 1.500 hectares grown normally and the other now applied new approachments to produce by 30 tons for each hectare all around the year. Due to the high demands, the farmers hope that they can supply the fruit with big volumn and the most competitive price for this big market.
