Ms. Nguyen Thi Vinh, owner of the facility, said: Realizing the large backlog of coconut shells in the locality, the facility has invested in a machine to separate coir and coco peat to supply the surrounding market. Currently, every day the facility produces about 7 tons of coco peat, 2 tons of coir only. Although the output is high, it is not enough to meet the market demand.

According to sharing from Ngoc Vinh facility, each 10 kg bag of coco peat costs 23,000 VND. Particularly, each ton of coconut fiber after being pressed into bales has an export value of about 2.5 - 3 million VND. Value increased many times compared to coconut shell waste.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Ben Tre province, at present, only coir is one of the main export items of the province. In 2019, Ben Tre province exported nearly 49,000 tons, in 2020 nearly 45,000 tons. Particularly in 2021, due to the world market facing many difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic, coconut production is affected by the saltwater drought in 2020, so the province aims to export about 30,000 tons of coir only.

Currently, coir carpet products help increase the value of only raw coir. Dong Duong Coconut Co., Ltd in Tan An hamlet, Tan Binh commune, Mo Cay Bac district is a pioneer in Ben Tre that has developed this product for export, earning about 5 billion VND/month.

Mr. Le Thanh Tien, Director of the company shared: Currently, the company's products are mainly consumed in the Korean market. The company's European and Japanese markets have also developed but its market share is not large.

Compared to the price of raw silk from only 3,000 VND/kg, when the finished product is worth more than 10,000 VND/kg. Each 10 m2 carpet has an export value of over 45 USD. Each month, the company exports from 30-40 containers, revenue is about 5 billion.

According to Mr. Tien, Indochina Coconut Factory is dealing with about 80 employees with an income of 7.5 million VND/month. In particular, there are employees with incomes from 12-13 million VND/day. In addition, the company's 6 satellite facilities, each with more than 10 employees earning income from weaving coir carpets.

"From the processed coconut shell, it has become the main export product of Ben Tre province, bringing in hundreds of billions of dong per year and creating significant jobs for the locality," said Mr. Vo Van Chien. Vice Chairman of Farmers Association of Ben Tre province said.

According to Mr. Chien, Ben Tre province has a large coconut area of over 72,000 hectares, with an output of over 600 million fruits per year. Coconut products abound. In which, coconut shells use a machine to break out the threads and coco peat. Only coconut fiber is used for weaving and weaving carpets.

Coco peat for use as fertilizer in the production of seedlings is very good, combined with some other types of microbial fertilizers to help loosen effectively. Therefore, it is possible to use up all coconut products, without leaving anything, including coconut shells, spoiled coconuts... to help increase the value of the coconut industry.
